MOUNTAIN FUNERAL (2014)

Mountain Funeral (2014) was made by filmmaker, video artist, and photographer Jonathan Johnson. He combined video footage from Iceland with a track that I originally made for American Winter (2007), which makes use of a recording of a man recalling and describing a funeral from his childhood. This recording came from the Berea College Appalachian Sound Archives.

Johnson comments, "'Mountain Funeral' combines a spoken story about a funeral in the Appalachian region of the United States with imagery shot in northern Iceland. The contrast between the sound and image content give way slowly, as the fog of the mountains fuses with the simple, yet mesmerizing story of life, death and spirits that transcend them both."
